1. Who We Are

ParleAfrica is a community platform for Africans learning French, operated by Paul King. If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at parleafrica@gmail.com.

  • Profile data — bio, profile photo, and language preference
  • Content data — posts, comments, messages, and vocabulary lists you create

  • Payment data — subscription plan and payment reference (processed by Paystack; we do not store card details)
  • Device data — push notification tokens for delivering notifications to your device
  • Usage data — anonymised analytics via PostHog and Vercel Analytics to understand how the Platform is used

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Moderate content and enforce Community Guidelines
  • Understand usage patterns to improve the product

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Data Sharing

We share data only with the following trusted services necessary to operate the Platform:

If you add your birthday, only the day and month are stored — never the year. Your birthday is displayed to other community members on the Birthdays tab on your birthday only. You can remove or update your birthday at any time from your Profile settings.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for fraud prevention.

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Opt out of marketing emails by contacting us

To exercise any of these rights, email parleafrica@gmail.com.

8. Cookies & Local Storage

ParleAfrica uses browser local storage to save your language preference and session data. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Analytics tools may use anonymised cookies to track usage patterns.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), row-level security on our database, and secure authentication via Supabase. No system is 100% secure — if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

10. Children

ParleAfrica is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
